During the XV Industrial Congress held by the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (CIG), Grupo ITM was awarded the 2020 Industrial Award in the large enterprise innovation category for a project developed at Universidad Del Valle de Guatemala (UVG). Grupo ITM is a multinational company with over 60 years in the market.
“They have developed innovative projects that have contributed significantly to the industrial, telecommunications, and electrification sectors throughout the region,” said Javier Zepeda, executive director of the Chamber of Industry.
The Center for Innovation and Technology (CIT) is not only notable for the advancements and innovations it will bring to the student community. It has also captured the attention of engineers, architects, and industry leaders for all that it represents.
The CIT Tree project was born from the need to change paradigms, leverage the breadth, and renew the building's aesthetics to create a modern and innovative landscape. Grupo ITM took on the challenge of creating a structure that conveyed the spirit UVG: Teamwork, creative problem-solving, effective use of technology, leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, research and leadership.
The structure assembly process began with research into a series of technical and logistical specifications. This was necessary because the assembly technique uses an upward growth order, from the «trunk» towards the supports at the top. The construction and assembly of the structure took place between December 2019 and January 2020.
