Grupo ITM, generations with hearts of steel

Grupo ITM is a multinational Guatemalan company founded by a visionary, Guillermo González, in 1959. In its beginnings, its dedication was to the production of hardware and steel parts for structural purposes, with a small galvanizing furnace, which was the competitive advantage of that era.

In 1992, the company took a business turn and Mr. Mario Roberto González, son of Guillermo and current president of ITM, decided to venture with his family into the manufacturing and sale of the first tower Telecommunications in Central America. It's like after a while, the orders started to multiply, reaching up to seven 60-meter towers being manufactured in a single day at that time.

Faced with the need to expand their existing capacity, they began producing their own wineries in 2000. In 2005, they formalized the metal structures line and the poles line for electrical and telecommunications use, in addition to infrastructure and signage, safety barriers, among many other projects.

Until approximately 2008, they were the main suppliers for telecommunications companies in Central America, and by 2014, they had the opportunity to participate in the manufacturing of the largest sports complex in Central America for the Autonomous University of Honduras, contributing over 2,500 tons of roofing.

No fear of success!

At the beginning of the global pandemic, no one wanted to continue investing in businesses. However, thanks to the family's effort, ITM sought new opportunities, managing to expand into four more countries and strengthen its presence in South America. In this way, they kept the company active and, in such an atypical year, managed to save not only production but also the employees who work there.

”We are not afraid to work with steel; we have a plant capable of handling any project, but on top of that, we believe in family values and make all our decisions together. I am confident that with our ambition, effort, and dedication to the company, we will become the largest steel company in the entire region," commented Alejandro González.

Today, ITM has an automated facility of 40,000 square meters and a presence in 19 countries; they have five production lines for Telecommunications, electrification, metal structures, special structures and infrastructure. Likewise, it is found by the third generation of Guatemalan entrepreneurs, who in their time have known the value of a family business and its beginnings, but above all each has left their mark on innovation in a successful Guatemalan export company.
